Caregiver Support Group
In conjunction with the Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter, we offer a caregiver support group, open to members of the greater Bangor community. The support group is designed to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings. These meetings help participants develop coping methods and encourage caregivers to maintain their personal, physical and emotional health, as well as optimally care for the person with dementia. The group is led by Westgate staff that have participated in the Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter's Support Group Facilitator Training Program and have signed confidentiality agreements and conflict of interest forms. People come to support groups looking for others who "really understand their situation because they've been there too."

Please call (207) 942-7336 for information on dates and times of our group meetings.

 Activity Focus
Our goal is to structure each day with experiences that improve the lives of our residents with Alzheimer’s.  We use reminiscence therapy to recall life history and social interaction with peers to affirm dignity, identity and self-esteem.  Through “failure-free” activities, we strive to provide positive reinforcement.  Our program is guided by a creative, innovative staff that is sensitive to the residents’ individual needs.

Community Outreach
We offer educational seminars, public forums, community support groups, volunteer training, a speaker’s bureau, and are highly active in the Eastern Maine Walk to End Alzheimer's
